Exceptional (I)GCSE results for Taunton School students

Taunton School students are once again celebrating outstanding (I)GCSE examination results today.

Overall, 162 students have received their GCSE results at the School today. 13% of these results are graded 9 and 45% graded 9-7. Notably, for the top 100 performers, 20% of results are graded 9 and 64% graded 9-7.

Individual students who have particularly excelled include Joseph, who has achieved eight results at grade 9 and two at grade 8; Tom, who has achieved nine results at grade 9, one at grade 8 and one at grade 7, alongside representing England for hockey throughout his GCSE studies; Kinuko, who has achieved five results at grade 9 and two at grade 8, having completed her studies in one year; and Abi, who has achieved seven results at grade 9 and three at grade 8. Overall, sixteen students have achieved results that are all grades 9-7, two of whom have completed their studies through the School's One-Year GCSE programme.

Headmaster James Johnson said: 'Waiting for exam results is always an anxious time for students, parents and teachers alike. The hope is that all candidates are fairly rewarded for their efforts with grades that facilitate the next steps planned. I am delighted that this is the case for so many of our students and congratulate them all on the sustained commitment that sitting multiple exams in many subjects demands.

'Taunton School is proud of the diverse GCSE pathways on offer and our excellent, long-established reputation in both the two-year and one-year GCSE programmes. None of this happens without the vital combination of student engagement, teacher guidance and parental support, all of which have been in evidence again this year.'

Although most students at Taunton School take two years to complete their GCSE studies, the School offers international students an accelerated pathway that allows them to take their GCSE examinations after only one year. Almost a third of its students completing their studies this year have personalised their learning in this way.

Taunton School International Head, Camilla Bryden, said: 'I am delighted, once again, with this year’s results for our One-Year GCSE cohort. The overall pass rate for this cohort is the best for a number of years and half of all grades are 9-7.

'It is the commitment and dedication of our teachers and wider staff who deliver such an excellent provision for our students, of which I am so proud. I wish to thank everyone who has been part of this success. Congratulations to all our students who have performed so well.'

This year, students at Taunton School have taken GCSE and IGCSE qualifications in over 35 subjects. This ensures every student has a curriculum that is suited to them and on which they can thrive. Taunton School also provides international students the option to study a bespoke Pre-GCSE programme.

Many students will now head to Taunton School Sixth Form to study A-Levels, BTEC, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or the International Foundation Year.

Taunton School offers a variety of scholarships and assisted places each year for Year 9 entry, allowing students who would ordinarily not have access to an independent school education to study their GCSEs at the prestigious day and boarding school.
