Bede's School serves up another outstanding summer of tennis success

Bede's School is celebrating another exceptional summer of tennis achievements, with pupils excelling at county, regional, national and international level, further reinforcing the school's reputation as one of the leading schools for developing young tennis talent.

More than 20 Bede's players represented the school at the Tennis Sussex County Championships, producing an impressive collection of titles, finals appearances and representative honours across multiple age groups.

Among the standout performances, Year 11 pupil Harrison produced one of the top performances of the tournament, reaching the Men's Singles Final at just 15 years of age before teaming up with Bede’s Year 13 pupil Levi to win the U18 Doubles title. Harrison also continued his impressive progress on the international stage, reaching his first ITF semi-final.

Another standout performance came from Year 10 pupil Sienna, who reached the U18 Singles Final and captured the U18 Doubles title alongside her partner. Year 9 pupil Ngozi added to Bede's success by being crowned U16 Singles Champion. Year 10 pupil Ethan also impressed, reaching the U16 Singles Final, before teaming up with Mason to finish as U16 Doubles finalists, completing another highly successful championship campaign for Bede's players.

At the Prep School, Year 5 pupil Arthur secured the U9 County Championship title and was selected for the Regional Pathway, where he will continue training alongside the top 20 boys in the country. He also claimed victory at the U9 Regional Tour events in Tunbridge Wells and Radlett. Year 7 pupil Matthew also achieved notable success, being crowned U11 County Champion, reaching the U12 Final and capturing both the U11 and U12 Doubles titles.

Bede's players have also enjoyed success on the international stage, earning opportunities to compete against some of the world's leading junior talent. Year 12 pupil Pasha has been selected to represent Ukraine in Italy later this month, while Year 10 pupil Emily's outstanding season saw her win a Regional Tour event and earn an invitation to the prestigious Champions Bowl World Finals in Croatia, where she will compete against some of the world's best junior players.

The school’s success extends beyond its current pupils. Former Head Boy Jack Ford, who achieved an impressive A* A* A at A Level this summer, is preparing to continue both his academic studies and tennis career at Hillsdale College in Michigan, USA, after securing a tennis scholarship. His progression is the latest example of the opportunities available to talented young players at Bede's, both on and off the court.

Level 4 Tennis Coach and former junior national, international and Great Britain player, Francesca Byrne, said:

'We are incredibly proud of everything our players have achieved this summer. Their results are a testament not only to their talent, but also to their commitment, resilience and work ethic. It has been wonderful to see so many players progressing at county, regional, national and international level and we look forward to supporting them on the next stage of their tennis journeys.'

Bede's offers a comprehensive year-round tennis programme, providing up to 12 to 15 hours of weekly court time alongside strength and conditioning, swim recovery sessions and academic support, all carefully integrated around the school timetable. The programme is designed to support aspiring elite athletes while maintaining academic excellence, with Bede's developing a strong track record of helping players secure scholarship opportunities at leading UK and American universities.
