Major Milestone for Moon Hall as School Capacity increases to 250 Pupils
Moon Hall School Reigate is delighted to confirm it has been granted Department for Education approval to increase its registered capacity from 200 to 250 pupils, marking a significant milestone for the school and enabling more children with dyslexia to benefit from its specialist education. The decision follows a successful inspection in July 2026, which confirmed Moon Hall's ability to support growth while maintaining the high standards and personalised approach for which it is known.

During the visit, inspectors spent time speaking directly with pupils, who described Moon Hall as a calm, safe and supportive environment. Students spoke positively about their experiences in school, their understanding of online safety and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and the confidence they have in the adults who support them. Perhaps most significantly, pupils explained that teachers understand dyslexia and recognise that it affects every child differently. That observation reflects a principle that sits at the heart of Moon Hall's educational philosophy.
The approval to increase capacity comes at a time when demand for specialist support for children with dyslexia continues to grow. For many families, identifying the right educational environment can be a significant challenge, and the ability to offer more places will help ensure that additional pupils can benefit from the specialist teaching and understanding on which Moon Hall has built its reputation.
In a particularly encouraging piece of feedback, inspectors commented at the conclusion of the visit that they would have welcomed the opportunity to undertake a full inspection because they wanted to see more of the school. For a visit specifically focused on a material change application, this was received as a meaningful endorsement of the wider Moon Hall experience. An approved capacity of 250 students does not signal a rapid expansion programme. Instead, Moon Hall remains committed to protecting the qualities that define the school: small class sizes, specialist teaching, individualised support, strong pastoral care and a community where every child is known and understood.
Michelle Catterson, Executive Head of Moon Hall School Reigate, said:
'
This is a significant moment for Moon Hall and one that reflects the dedication of our staff, the support of our families and, most importantly, the remarkable young people who make up our school community. We are proud that independent inspection feedback continues to recognise the quality of our provision and the positive experience of our pupils. While we are delighted to have received approval to increase our capacity, our focus remains unchanged. Growth will only ever be pursued in a way that protects the specialist, nurturing and highly personalised environment that defines a Moon Hall education. This approval means that more children who would benefit from specialist dyslexia provision will be able to access it, while ensuring the needs of our existing pupils remain at the heart of every decision we make.'
This increased capacity outcome follows a sustained period of inspection success. Following 2024’s inspection Moon Hall was recognised with a Significant Strength for pupil personal development, a distinction awarded to fewer than 10% of schools, while a subsequent inspection in March 2025 confirmed the school remained fully compliant. The recent material change inspection identified no concerns and generated overwhelmingly positive feedback.
Moon Hall enters this new academic year from a position of strength, the achievement however, is about more than numbers or inspection outcomes. It is about creating opportunities for more young people with dyslexia to discover their strengths, build their confidence and realise what they can achieve.
