Canford School - New College Residences for Upper Sixth pupils

September 2026 marks a defining moment in the evolution of Canford Sixth Form. With the arrival of the College Residences, the vision for The College is now fully realised, creating one of the most distinctive and forward thinking Sixth Form experiences in the country. As Jono Santry, Head of Sixth Form describes it, this is far more than a new building project. It is the culmination of a bold ambition to bridge the gap between school and life beyond it.



The journey began in March 2025 with the launch of the College Hub, a purpose-built space at the heart of Sixth Form life. Designed to bring together academics, wellbeing, futures guidance and community, the Hub quickly became a vibrant centre for learning, collaboration and connection. More than simply a facility, it established anew culture for Sixth Form pupils, one built on aspiration, independence and opportunity.

Now, with the College Residences welcoming their first pupils in September 2026, that vision has reached its full potential. Created specifically for Upper Sixth pupils, the Residences offer single en-suite rooms, shared social spaces and an environment that encourages what Canford calls “managed independence” – greater freedom balanced with increased  responsibility.

At its heart, The College is about preparing young people for whatever comes next. Whether pupils are heading to university, degree apprenticeships, employment or a gap year, they leave with more than outstanding qualifications. They develop the confidence to make decisions, the maturity to manage their own lives and the sense of purpose to embrace future challenges.

What makes this achievement particularly special is that today’s students are helping to shape a legacy. As one of the first generations to experience The College in its entirety, they are not only benefiting from a transformative new environment but also creating the culture, traditions and community that future cohorts will inherit.
