A September of firsts for Westminster Under School
A new term has brought new beginnings at Westminster Under School.
Girls have now joined Year 3 and Year 7, while our new Pre-Prep has welcomed its first pupils. For the first time in its history, the Under School is co-educational.
The arrival of girls in Years 3 and 7 begins a transition that will continue through the Under School and forms part of Westminster School’s move towards full co-education across all year groups by 2030.
The opening of the Pre-Prep also marks a significant milestone for Westminster Under School, extending a Westminster education to younger children for the first time, with girls and boys learning together from the outset.
For all that is new, much is reassuringly familiar. The rhythms of the school day have quickly returned, along with all the usual bustle of term.
The things we value remain unchanged: curiosity, independence of thought, kindness, breadth of opportunity and the confidence to ask questions. What has grown is the community sharing in them.
New and returning pupils, boys and girls, are learning together, playing sport, making music and finding their place within the school. There has been much careful preparation for this September, but school life has a way of moving swiftly on.
There is, after all, a term to get on with.
For our first Pre-Prep pupils, the girls joining Years 3 and 7, those new to the school and those returning to find it a little changed, September 2026 will have a special place in the story of Westminster Under School.
For now, they are busy being pupils.
Schools can spend years preparing for change. Children have a rather quicker way of making it real.
They arrive, they meet one another, and school begins.
As we enter this new chapter, families interested in joining Westminster Under School can learn more about our 4+, 7+, and 11+ entry points through our admissions pages.
