Eastbourne College hosts Regional Schools' Biathlon Championships
Eastbourne College welcomed more than 70 talented young athletes for the Regional Schools' Biathlon Championships on Tuesday 22 September.
The College hosted the championships for the third consecutive year, with pupils from schools across the South East, in years 5 to 13, competing alongside 14 Eastbourne College and 13 St Andrew's Prep pupils.
Supported by family, friends and school staff, competitors tested themselves in both swimming and running events. Times from the two disciplines were combined to determine overall standings and the chance to qualify for the National Schools’ Biathlon Championships.
Eastbourne College pupils rose to the challenge, with eight athletes securing medals: Henry F, Elsie Y, Daniel G, James F, Connie F, James F, Millie G and Tom C. Meanwhile, Gabbi Z and Evie D also secured medals for St Andrew’s Prep.
Lilly Wilman, event organiser and teacher at Eastbourne College, said: '
The sun shone for us and there was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day. It was brilliant to welcome so many athletes to Eastbourne College and see them giving their all, supporting each other and enjoying the challenge of the biathlon. We were particularly proud of our own pupils and their fantastic performances.'
The event also showcased Eastbourne College’s sporting facilities and the breadth of opportunities available to pupils alongside their academic studies. From trying new sports to competing at a high level, pupils can develop their skills and pursue their sporting ambitions, with opportunities to study Sport at GCSE, A-level and BTEC. Sports Scholarships are also available for pupils with particular sporting potential.
