Berkshire School, Downe House, celebrates National success of U15 Lacrosse Team
Downe House School is celebrating the success of their U15 Lacrosse Team, following its win at the England Lacrosse National Schools Championship
Downe House, an independent boarding and day school for girls located in Cold Ash, Berkshire, is celebrating the success of their U15 Lacrosse team who became National Champions at the England Lacrosse National Schools tournament, held in Aldershot on 9 March.
The team had made it to their age-group finals in the last two years of the National Championships, only to be defeated each time – this year it proved Downe House’s turn to lift the trophy.
The final saw Downe House come from behind twice to beat last year’s winners Berkhamsted. Trailing after the first half, Downe fought hard to get back in the running, before taking the lead, which they held on to until the final whistle – and a win of 3 goals to 2.Downe House has been playing lacrosse since the 1920s, and it remains the most popular sport amongst a wide range of different team games played at the school. The school has seen many students go on to international selection for England, Scotland, Wales and other nations, and includes several high-level international players within the coaching team.
Director of Sport, Katie Lauder, commented:
'We are so thrilled for the team. Making the final three years in a row is a significant achievement, and it is a testament to the girls’ resilience and self-belief that they made it third-time lucky this year! We have a squad of talented players, but their coaches worked hard to develop trust and cohesion within the team, and this made all the difference. We could not be more proud.'
